The Latest Advancements in Electrosurgery

Advancements in TechnologyElectrosurgery was introduced in 1926 as a means to improve the outcome of surgical procedures that are highly vascular in nature.

Use of electrical current produces high levels of heat and allows cleaner cutting by precise cauterization and coagulation, thus greatly reducing hemostasis. Large resections, head surgeries, and any procedure involving the removal of a malignancy greatly benefit from the use of electrosurgery.

Equipment consists of the electrosurgical generator and various electrosurgery accessories. The generator is available in different sizes, depending on the needs of your facility, and some electrosurgical generators have footswitches that allow the surgeon to control power with a touch of his/her feet; keeping the hands fully engaged in the surgical procedure.

Various electrosurgery accessories are pencils, blades, electrodes, loops, suction coagulators, pads, adapters, and cords. At Bovie, we offer the following products to compliment our electrosurgical generators:

  • Resistick II: New to the Bovie Medical Corp line up of electrosurgical accessories, the Resistick II is a series of coated balls, blades and electrodes that cut with more precision, less hemostasis, and are much easier to clean than the traditional metal electrode.

  • Suction Coagulators: Also new to the Bovie line of electrosurgery accessories, these tools are offered in six different models, are adaptable to the different product lines, and are offered in three diameters. They offer suction with or without simultaneous coagulation.

  • Pencils, blades, electrodes, loops: These products are stainless steel, individually wrapped, and disposable. They feature button, rocker, or foot control, and are offered with or without holster. Bovie also offers a reusable pencil that is validated to 40 autoclave cycles, and is available sterile or non sterile.

  • Smoke and Particle Removal Equipment: Smoke and noxious fumes are an occupational hazard with electrosurgery, and need to be controlled carefully to maintain safety in you operating theater or doctor's office. Bovie offers the Smoke Shark, designed to quickly and effectively remove harmful particles and smoke from your operating site. It is also effective for use with Laser Surgical Equipment.
