In September, 2013, Bovie's President, Rob Saron, was interviewed by Opportunist Magazine. Opportunist, a publication that focuses on people, products and programs that exemplify out-of-the-box thinking, was fortunate to catch our president on a day when he could take time from his hectic schedule. The resultant interview was insightful, candid and informative. It focused on Bovie Medical Corp.'s innovative and inspired electrosurgical tools, and especially the new J-Plasma device.
The interview was conducted by Leslie Stone, Opportunist's Managing Editor, who began the interview by inquiring about Rob's beginnings.
He told her that his journey into innovative medical products began as a child raised in St. Petersburg, Florida by strong parents who were both in the medical field. While still attending college, Rob elected to work with his father who had founded a generic pharmaceuticals company. It was a bold, unique venture for its time. However, for Rob, pharmaceutical sales wasn't his cup of tea.
Rob's father sold his successful business and started a home oxygen business, another subsequently successful entrepreneurial effort. Covering the state of Florida, and growing as a fruitful venture, it too was purchased by a larger company.
Rob got into the medical manufacturing business through making battery operated pen lights and cauteries, devices that control blood loss, which had the same basic structure.
After some difficult times good fortune came to Rob when Bristol Meyers Squibb acquired the leading cautery manufacturing company. In their acquisition, they split up the company and altered the products' catalog numbers. As a result, frustrated customers began calling Rob to see if he could get the products. He could and did, which initiated his successful foray into medical device manufacturing.
The interview then turned its focus to the current line of Bovie Medical services, which basically consists of the manufacture of electrosurgical generators and the unique accessories utilized with them.
Rob explained the differences between what most companies make and what we make at Bovie. Whereas most companies design generators for the operating room, we here at Bovie manufacture models for OB/GYN, surgi-centers, dermatology, plastic and general surgery as well as for the OR. Each model has its own unique special features to accommodate its required tasks. Ranging from 40 watt models to 300 watt models, each electrosurgical device performs to exacting specifications.
Rob went on to stress that safety is the main concern; all devices are manufactured with strict adherence to patient and care provider safety.
He then emphasized, with great pride, that the innovative J-Plasma technology is definitely the wave of the future. The surgical cut is infinitely more precise and cleaner than is possible to achieve with a surgeon's scalpel. Control over the surgical procedure is brought to a whole new level, ensuring a safer, cleaner procedure. The potential for benefits across the board are enormous and could bring practicing physicians to higher levels of efficiency and prominence in a wide variety of procedures.
Some of the procedures that do or could benefit from Bovie's amazing J-Plasma technology include:
-
Gynecology
-
Gastroenterology
-
Dermatology
-
Neurology
-
Urology
-
Plastic Surgery
-
Veterinary Medicine
Bovie Medical Corp. President Rob Saron is part of an amazing company with technology destined to occupy a unique position in the world of surgical care. We are confident that J-Plasma technology will soon benefit people worldwide.
