Any surgical procedure subjects the patient, and to some extent the staff, to certain risks of harm. It is important for facilities and surgeons to take all reasonable care to reduce these risks. Using the proper equipment is just one way to enhance risk reduction.
At Bovie, we strive to make our products the safest ones available. Three such devices have been created or improved on in order to maximize safety and reduce risks to the patients, staff and office or surgery center. The three discussed here are the Bovie MI LED surgical light system, the Aaron 2250 and the Smoke Shark II.

MI 1000 LED surgical light system.
Most professionals know that LED surgical lights are more efficient and emit less heat than standard halogen lights. These features contribute to risk reduction in several ways. The surgeon and staff work better and are more comfortable during the procedure. There are also significant advantages to the patients. The surgical field is kept cooler and reduces drying out of the area and surrounding tissue.
Other specific risk reduction advantages of the MI 1000 LED surgical light system are:
• The on/off switch and a five-stage dimming feature are controlled by the handle. The handle is sterilizable.
• Mounting options are available to meet specific safety and convenience needs.
• The light is brighter and gives the surgeon a clearer visual field of the surgical area. The elimination of confusing shadows allows greater precision by the surgeon.
Aaron 2250 Digital Electrosurgery Generator
The Aaron 2250 has monopolar and bipolar functions, ten blend settings plus cut - all with 200 watts maximum power output - and, just as important, many safety features such as:
• It automatically performs a safety systems check when it is turned on.
• Only one output can be activated at a time.
• An internal digital error detector that continuously monitors all functions of the device. If a problem is detected, the machine’s output is disabled and the correct error code is shown on the large, illuminated display screen.
With the Aaron 2250 built-in safety features, risk is reduced. All the physician needs to do is to follow general practices for the safe use of electrosurgical generators.
Smoke Shark II.
The Smoke Shark II was created to reduce the risk of harm caused by the smoke plume common in an electrosurgical procedure. The smoke plume may contain particles that are toxic to staff and patients. It is important to minimize or evacuate this plume for the safety of the facility and the people present. The ultra-quiet, light-weight Smoke Shark II is simple to operate and easy to store. It minimizes, as much as possible, the exposure to the smoke plume.
We strive to set the standard for risk reduction during surgical procedures. The use of state-of-the-art equipment, designed with safety features, is one more step toward surgical risk reduction.
