The Kids and the Kubs play softball in downtown St. Petersburg, Florida and it has always been a goal of mine to play on this team. Now this is a very special group of guys. That being said, they do have a few women on the teams now, and not as token members. There are only a few, but they are equal in talent to the men in every way. You see this team of my future has an age requirement, you need to be at least 75 years old. I have a picture hanging behind my desk of a poster Nike did many years ago picturing the Kids and the Kubs, titled “Some Sides Never Retire”.

My goal got a little more difficult to reach, and the Kids and Kubs flashed before my eyes, when my left knee gave out and I crumbled to the ground Wednesday night playing softball for my current team. It made an awful sound when I tried to change direction and my body took exception to that maneuver. I got carried from the field to the dugout and then to my car after the game. The good news is we did win an exciting game 16 – 15 after trailing 10 – 2. Hey, if you are going to play or even get hurt, you might as well win the game. The doctor the next day after pulling, twisting and stabbing me with the biggest needle and syringe I had ever seen said, it might not be so bad. So now I am in a walking splint and headed on the road Sunday.
The Kids and Kubs in some ways remind me of the Bovie electrosurgical generators...they just keep on working.
