2016 Worldwide EndoMarch: March 19

ID-10062021-1.jpgPeople and organizations all over the world will be joining together on March 19th for the 2016 ENDOMARCH.  This is an annual event to be held in many different cities around the world to increase the awareness of endometriosis.  Begun in 2013, this will be the fourth yearly march in support of increasing awareness of this devastating condition.

It has been said that endometriosis has been the most misdiagnosed malady for the past 4000 years.  The Endometriosis Association indicates that this potentially debilitating disease "affects at least 6.3 million women and girls in the U.S., 1 million in Canada, and millions more worldwide."  One of the goals of the organizers of the 2016 ENDOMARCH is to promote more government research funding to find a cause and cure.

Endometriosis is a condition in which the tissue which normally lines the uterus, the endometrium, grows outside the uterus, usually in adjacent areas.  While this tissue is most commonly found within the abdomen, in the pelvic area.

It is the leading cause of pelvic pain and is often associated with infertility.  It also often causes scarring and may be the formative cause of pelvic infections.  This is due to the fact that these tissues are subject to the same cyclic swelling and sloughing phenomena that occurs within the uterus, but have no way of leaving the body as through the menstrual flow.  Consequently, there may be internal bleeding, scarring, adhesions, infections and, definitely, heightened pain.

The motto of “Stop the Silence” calls for sufferers and supporters to stop crying in silence because of endometriosis and, instead, start crying out for more research into prevention and treatment of it.  In that regard the organizers have called for blogs and stories about the experiences of sufferers from endometriosis.

Bovie Medical manufactures a helium-plasma surgical device called J-Plasma and has developed blogs and even videos which address the pain and heartbreak that some women go through as a result of this disease. Sufferers, Adrianna and Ashley stories can be seen here.  They both experienced unremitting pain and infertility until being treated surgically with the J-Plasma device.  As a result of their treatment they have both been essentially pain free.

Bovie Medical is excited to support efforts to increase the awareness about this debilitating disease and is doing so by sponsoring marches on both sides of the continent.  We will be joining the marches in both Washington, DC - the DC ENDOMARCH - and in San Francisco, - the SF ENDOMARCH.  We will be putting our pocketbook, as well as our feet, where our mouth is to support research and awareness.  #Stopthesilence

In addition to marching, many supporters will be engaged in “painting the town yellow” or wearing yellow tutus. So, wear your yellow and join us in support of the 2016 ENDOMARCH events.
